In vehicles, axles play a vital role in transferring the power generated by the engine to the wheels, allowing your car to move while supporting the vehicle's weight.
Front Axles
The front axle is responsible for assisting with steering, processing shocks from the uneven surface of the road, and carrying the weight of the front part of the vehicle. In front-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicles, the front axle also delivers power to the front wheels. These are typically split axles, known as CV (constant velocity) axles, which allow the wheels to turn left and right while still receiving power.
Rear Axles
The rear axle is responsible for delivering power to the driving wheels in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vehicles. It comes in two halves, connected by the differential. In front-wheel-drive cars, the rear axle is often a simple beam axle, serving mainly to support the rear weight of the vehicle and provide a mounting point for the rear suspension and brakes.
Signs of Axle Problems
