How Does a Radiator Work?
As your engine runs, it generates an immense amount of heat. Coolant is pumped through the engine block, absorbing this heat. The hot coolant then flows into the radiator, which is made of a series of small tubes with fins attached to them.
As the hot coolant passes through these tubes, air blows across the fins—either from the vehicle's forward motion or from a cooling fan. This air absorbs the heat from the coolant, significantly lowering its temperature. The cooled coolant is then circulated back into the engine to absorb more heat, creating a continuous cycle.
Signs of a Failing Radiator
- Overheating Engine: The most obvious sign is the temperature gauge spiking into the red zone.
